Design and Looks
The phone stands at 111.5x62.5x12.8mm and weighs about 130g. The design of the phone is quite similar to the completion from Motorola Q and the Samsung Blackjack. The phone supports a nice design that fits good in your palms and much comfortable to use. The surface of the phone is rubberized giving it a good grip.
The phone features the Windows Mobile Phone 5 and thus does not feature a touch screen with it. All the interface controls can be used by the exterior buttons on the phone. The screen on the C720W comes at 2.4 inches and is capable to display 240x320 pixels with 65,000 colors. The display is great with its brightness and vibrant colors. The sunlight eligibility is amazing with the display being able to be read easily even in direct sunlight.
Below the screen, there are navigation controls along with two soft keys, talk and end button, the today screen shortcut, back button and a five-way D-pad. The C720W comes with a full QWERTY keyboard which is easy to use with the keys being tactile and offer great comfort even for a fast typing. The keyboard comes with a good backlight and the interesting feature on the keypad is that just dialing the numbers on the keypad it invokes the callers list featuring the contact and is ready to dial in.
Another interesting feature on the phone is the touch strip on the right side of the phone that controls volume on the handset. Just touching the controls up and down minimizes or increases the volume up. The controls are on the right side and thus might be a little inconvenient for left hand users.
The rear of the phone sports the camera and self portrait mirror but does not come with flash. The camera comes along with a 1.3 megapixel sensor and does not offer much. The camera interface is quite complicated and one has to get used to it before getting right with pictures.
The interface on the phone is the Windows Mobile 5 Smartphone Edition and offers ClearVue Suite. There is also download agent, a calculator, task manager and a voice recorder. Under the hood the phone contains a 64MB of SDRAM and 128MB of flash ROM. It also features the microSD for expansion.
On the communication front the phone is a quad band phone with Wi-Fi and EDGE. For local connections it offers Bluetooth 2.0 which requires less power consumption and offers great speeds.
The battery on the phone gives a talk time of 5 hours and up to 9 days of standby time. Overall the C720W is a good competition for the Moto Q and the BlackBerry 8700g as this one comes with far better features and appeals right out to the same users with a decent price.
