Design and Looks
The design of HTC P4550 or HTC TyTN is bulky but that's understandable considering the long spec sheet. The dimensions of the phone stand at 112x59x19mm. The phone weighs about a hefty 190g and could be an issue with its weight for most users.
The front of the phone sports a 2.8 incher touch screen display which even offers handwriting recognition. At the bottom of the screen the phone comes along with a 5 way navigation D-pad , call and end buttons along with the 'ok' and the 'windows button'. At the base of the phone, it offers a micro-SD card slot with a dust cover.
The 2.8 inch 65K color touch screen TFT display is of resistive type of touch screen display and does lack a bit of sunlight eligibility. The display can be tilted and thus presents a nice hardware QWERTY keyboard that's great for typing. The keys are pleasantly tactile and with availability of two soft keys onboard. There is Fn key available that provides several shortcuts, the keys are all accessible and is overall it's a great experience typing on the phone.
The call performance on the phone is again good and features the Smart Dial feature making the job so much easier. The interface on the phone is the Windows Mobile 6 Pro and comes with a good response and features all the windows basic applications available. The home interface is custom designed by HTC and provides various options in terms of tabs that showcase frequently used functions. HTC TouchFLO technology provides a nice touch and delivers good results overcoming the basic flaws in the windows interface. There is smooth scrolling, finger scrolling and more that makes much more fun to use the windows mobile interface.
On the multimedia aspect, the phone comes along with a 3 megapixel camera with auto focus. A half press on the shutter key locks the auto focus and exposure. The camera interface is easy to operate and can be done with fingers easily. There are multiple editing features onboard and make it pleasure to take photos. There is self timer and exposure compensation included. TyTN II is also able to record the videos in MPEG4 in CIF resolution in 352x288 pixels at 20fps.
The connectivity on the phone is again a pleasure; it allows USB connectivity, Bluetooth 2.0, Wi-Fi and tri-band UMTS support plus HSUPA 3.6Mbps. Along with this there is also GPRS and EDGE supported too. The phone has a GPS receiver and comes with assisted GPS. The integrated chipset does a good job and there are fairly acceptable lags on locking and navigation features.
Overall the phone is decent with great features packed in. If the spec sheet satisfies your crave then the phone is a must for you. A great upgrade if your changing into different platform.
