Design and Looks
The S710 stands at 101x50x17.7mm and weighs about 120g. The phone is light and nicely designed with rounded edges which give a good grip in the palm. The phone is light and compact enough to slide out through pockets with ease.
The screen on the phone is a 240x320 pixel resolution and measuring at 2.4 inches which is quite a huge display for this kind of phone. The display is able to reproduce 65000 colors and is quite bright even in bright sunlight.
Below the screen there is the normal keypad with the D-pad at the center surrounded by the call and end buttons. With a little slide the QWERTY keypad slides out featuring nicely round shaped keys with a little of plastic and rubberized feel making typing long messages or emails a treat.
The interface of the device contains Windows Mobile 6 Standard which means the exclusion of the touch screen. However the phone sports the Office Mobile Suite which is a great add on with the slide out keyboard. The phone is powered by the OMAP processor from Texas Instruments at 200MHZ. Onboard the device it holds 64MB of Ram and 128 Mb of Flash R OM. For more memory the phone supports a micro SD slot as an expansion slot.
Sadly there is not 3G on the phone but it supports GSM/GPRS/EDGE connectivity along with quad band support plus Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
The camera on the S710 is a 2 megapixel camera which does not come with auto focus or flash. The pictures taken stand out to be of average quality and do not appeal at all to any camera centric phone fans. The interface of the camera is simple and does not complicate all considering the limited feature set on the camera.
The music player on the phone is the standard Windows Mobile Phone available from Windows. The player comes with in-built Wi-Fi support and therefore streaming music videos or audio files are easily playable on the device. Video playback again is limited to the standard format compatibility supported by the software. The player can sort out audio and video files based on genre, artist and album.
In conclusion the phone being a Smartphone can be used as a normal phone without a hitch and comes loaded with great features. The phone does lack 3G but other than it's a great phone featuring a cool bright screen, MP3 player, Office Mobile, Messenger, and the neat QWERTY keyboard.
