Design and Looks
The HTC Touch Viva comes at 104.5x59x15.8 mm and weighs about 110g. The phone is completely made of plastic. The front of the phone is taken by the 2.8 inch QVGA screen. The screen can output at 240x320 pixels with 65K colors. The design of the phone gives it a nice shape to have a good grip in the palm and its compact size gets it in and out easily through various pocket size.
The new TouchFlo interface on the Viva makes it a nice improved interface from the previous Touch. The touch interface works in perfect synchronization with the phones functions and feels natural.
The screen on the phone is recessed which makes it a bit tougher to reach the edges of the screen with the thumb. The phone comes along with quad-band GSM and 2.5G GPRS and EDGE. There is Wi-Fi is included on the phone but no 3G. The internal memory of the phone has been upgraded to 128MB from the earlier 64MB of the original. The expansion card on the phone supports the microSD card slot too.
Under the hood , the phone features the 210 Mhz T1 OMAP 820 processor which is the same as the original Touch. The browser on the phone defaults to Opera with also the availability of Windows internet explorer. Movement on the browser screen can be done easily with a brush of the finger. But there's no accelerometer on the phone which could have been an added advantage.
The camera on the VIVA is an average 2 Mega Pixel. It comes along with the 2x digital zoom and the pictures shot with it have sport an average quality. The music player has always been good on the HTC handsets and this one is no new. The phone features a good loudspeaker but unfortunately it does not support any headphones. The use of adapter would be necessary if you do not posses USB type.
The battery on the HTC VIVA does a good job of lasting up to two days without a hassle with moderate usage.
Overall the phone does not appeal at all from the feature point of view but does a good job with basic functionality and at a moderate price which is the highlight of the phone. The phone is a good buy as a mid-range touch phone if features are your take then the HTC Touch 3G could be the handset you need.
